Wushu Styles

Throughout history, China has developed a variety of different styles of fighting. Some mimic the movements of animals, others are particularly powerful, others very fast and agile. The characteristic techniques of the different styles are expressed in the Wushu forms. Hardly any other martial art is so versatile and multifaceted.

Mordern Wushu- Sport

In Wushu sport, the training of the forms, the fist, treadle and jump techniques is the main focus. Shapes (Chinese Taolu) are the combination of martial arts techniques from the best-known traditional martial arts in China. In modern Wushu sports, Chang Quan („Boxing the long fist“) plays a major role. Far-reaching fist and hand techniques, fast and fluid leg movements, kicks and jumps characterize this style. With increasing ability, the level of difficulty increases, other styles, weapon techniques and choereographed partner fight (Chinese Dui Lian) are added.

Tongbei Martial Arts

The Wuyi Athletic Gym Heidelberg focuses on the traditional martial arts of the Tongbei Martial Arts, an outstanding martial arts system from northwestern China that combines various fist and weapon techniques. The most serious difference to modern Wushu sport is that the Tongbei martial arts do not contain acrobatic elements, as can be mastered in modern Wushu sport, but that the training focuses on the development of skills such as strength, speed, agility and practicability, which focus on combat applications. The individual physical condition of each practitioner is not a criterion for each individual's success in traditional Tongbei martial arts. So these martial arts can be learned and trained regardless of age.
